"Time For Real Economic Reform," Bob Barr

Posted by: Albert Andis

Press Release, Oct 16, 2008; from the NLP

After several huge, government bailouts, and other measures placing trillions of taxpayer dollars at risk, the nation’s financial system remains far from stable. There is much more work that needs to be done before the economy will return to its growth path, but it cannot be more of the same, heavy-handed government mandates that have failed us time and again.

The ongoing financial crisis demonstrates why, first, we must limit political interference in the economy. It was sustained federal pressure to increase mortgage lending, through Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, as well as the Community Reinvestment Act, which helped generate the huge economic bubble that just burst at great cost to every American.

Limiting political interference in the economy also requires limiting the ability of the Federal Reserve to manipulate the currency for political purposes. The Fed’s “easy money” policy over the last decade greatly contributed to an artificial increase in lending and property values. Unfortunately, it is the drop in those values which is the basis of today’s crisis. The ill-advised loosening of SEC regulations that had been in place to insure solvency and transparency in the operation of major investment firms, also contributed to the current financial crisis.

We must improve financial regulation to emphasize integrity and transparency. Many government agencies impose many regulations on the financial industry, but the quality of corporate and bank balance sheets remains unclear in too many cases. For instance, inter-bank lending has dropped because banks don’t know which banks are in trouble. We need better, more consistent regulation—not more regulation. Additionally, the laws and regulations on the books – supposed to insure integrity, transparency and soundness in financial institutions – must be enforced (as they have not been in recent years).

Government economic policies need to more effectively emphasize job creation. The best solution to unemployment is increased employment, not creating or expanding social benefits. That means permanently lowering tax rates and simplifying taxes. In contrast, cutting rates or adding credits for a couple of years offers no sustained relief or incentive for growth. Temporary, politically based fixes provide no sound basis on which companies and financial institutions are to able to make sound, long-term plans for hiring, inventory and production.

It is necessary to reform the overall tax system. Adjusting it at the edges with, for example, a deduction here or a credit there always will be less effective than lowering and simplifying overall rates. We must make the U.S. a warmer home for economic entrepreneurship and investment; not a temporary haven.

Moreover, rather than approve new bailouts, the federal government should cut regulatory burdens on hard-hit businesses. Environmental rules are noteworthy for their cost and inefficiency, for instance. It makes more sense to relax, or, better yet, end Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards on vehicles, which have imposed a huge cost burden on the auto industry, than to provide the companies with billions of dollars in loans in order to help them meet ever-increasing regulatory mandates.

Washington should carefully reconsider its regulatory strategies more broadly. Policymakers should initiate a detailed audit of federal rules, relaxing or eliminating any regulations for which costs outweigh benefits.

Fixing federal tax and regulatory policies also is necessary to improve America’s competitiveness in the global economy. The U.S. retains many advantages over other industrialized states, but has fallen well behind in tax policy. With economic turmoil at home, America cannot afford to lose its comparative advantage elsewhere.

Obviously, many of these steps will take time to implement – but we must start. And, in the short-term, government should look for ways to ease the burden on people hit hard by the current crisis. For example, Washington should reduce penalties on people for delayed tax payments and premature withdrawals from IRAs.

Policymakers also need to formally and clearly end the bailouts. This step is critical to promote private economic retrenchment and corporate work-outs. Significant financial cutbacks are painful, but inevitable. However, companies will resist taking these necessary steps if they believe they can count on a federal bailout. Distortions caused by government injecting billions of dollars into certain preferred banks and not others, only further impedes essential market based decisions by banks and other financial institutions to bring the markets back into balance.

Nonessential federal spending must be cut. With the 2008 fiscal year budge deficit close to $500 billion, and the 2009 deficit now expected to run at least $750 billion and as much as $1 trillion, we can no longer afford frivolous special interest outlays.

Over the longer term, we must deal with the mountain of future federal liabilities and obligations—FDIC bank guarantees, Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation promises, Social Security and Medicare liabilities, and more. So far just in the past few weeks, the federal government has undertaken roughly $2 trillion in bailouts. Total unfunded liabilities for Social Security and Medicare, that is, the excess of promised benefits over expected revenues, exceeds $100 trillion -- more than 50 times as much as these recent, costly bailouts!

Still, nothing is being done to address the looming fiscal catastrophe they portend.

Although the federal government can try to bail-out everyone else, there is no one to bail-out the federal government. We won’t be able to count on the Chinese, Japanese, or anyone else to purchase our increasingly high mountain of debt.

The American people have repeatedly demonstrated their capacity to meet great challenges. The government must stop interfering with their ability to prepare for future challenges. America can and must once again lead the world in economic power and growth, through exercise of a free-market economy; not follow meekly behind the U.K. and our other European friends that for decades have been pushing our country to emulate their model of centrally-managed economies.

A View of Politics and Religion by Similarities and Commonalities:

Written By: Albert Andis

As a Libertarian, I have often taken the views of different political views and positions with a grain of salt, to be believed or not. Not so dis-similarly, do I view other religions from my Christian point of view. In some, likewise manner, you can look at how Texans see Texas, and wonder how others can live in Arizona, for example. Looking at the United States of America, for all it has wrong, there is so much it has that is good, when you view the rest of the world.

But it is only after a short email reply I sent my friend John, that I seriously compared Religion to Political Beliefs, in that both are based on people believing. Believing in a Theoretical Possibility, or believing in the Scripture of the Bible; though vastly different, both are for the most part 'faith based', and you are counting on leadership to put into practice certain teachings and principles. Both create Institutions of higher learning to expand their 'fellowship.' Both revolved around a certain amount of activism and 'pledged donations' to accomplish the 'Mission Statement.'

Christian Religions continually seem to be in disagreement with each other about certain aspects of Biblical Scripture. They also, don't agree with the Jewish faith, or the Muslim faith or many other faiths in the world. However, for the most part Cristian Religious followers are not inclined to dislike the 'people of other faiths' based solely on perceptions of religion. There does not seem to be so much fight in religion over who is right and who is wrong, but accepting that the differences are less important than the 'commonality' shared. The one big fault in religious treatment of other people, is the treatment of people who have no religious faith or ceremony and do not believe in a Greater Being. These people get the wrath of all religions.

However, when you look at politics and politicians in the United States, you easily see that in certain situations Party Affiliation is far more important than any other feature of their life and belief system. Elections become very personal battle grounds, where every effort to discredit the opponent is not looked at negatively by other party members. It is even encouraged. Personal insults and attacks are common, rather than focusing debates on political theories and policy impacts of differing parties. The biggest problem is when you don't belong to a Political Party, then you are fair game for them all.

If the practitioners of religions and practitioners or politics could learn to treat all manner of people with equal respect and liberty in speech and action - regardless of the differences in debates - looking for the common ground and similarities, the America we protect so fervently would be some much more deserving of our Selfless Patriotism.

"Christ and God have nothing to do with politics, actually. The sooner the general public understands that, the better off we will all be, politically. Picking up a religion is almost like picking a political party - it is an affiliation of those willing to follow certain doctrines; though for very different reasoning I hope. However, if the religious people in the world would refrain from disdaining those who are not of their faith - the world would be in a better place as well. Likewise with politicians and nonpolitical individuals.

I am a believer, however I don't follow a religion or 'practice ceremony' ritual in my relationship with the Creator. That is my relations between me and 'Him', and not for public discussion or debate. So, fear not that you believe in your way, fear not also if you believe not; as such is your liberty and the liberty of all Americans."

More Government Stimulus Needed,: Says Bernanke

As the down-turn in the economy continues, the White house still remains reluctant to call this recession, a "recession." Leaving many Americans, and other nations, wondering what the Bush Administration sees so differently than the 'world view.' President Bush, himself is not willing to commit or endorse such moves at this time, as it would not (likely) effect his administration.

WASHINGTON, Oct. 20, 2008
Fed Chair, Bernanke's remarks before the House Budget Committee: "With the economy likely to be weak for several quarters, and with some risk of a protracted slowdown, consideration of a fiscal package by the Congress at this juncture seems appropriate." This was his first endorsement of any legislative initiative, beyond the previous bailout dollar's already committed and the 2007 stimulus checks sent out in early 2008.

The Current Economic Outlook:
A trio of hard blows have hit the American economy starting with the housing 'bubble burst.' Followed by the 'credit crunch' and the 'banking crises', have left the stock markets in turmoil over the past month. Many economist are predicting further shrinking in the markets and the US. economy, late this year and early next year. The nations' unemployment rate is slightly above 6% and is expected to climb as high as 7.1% in early 2009.

Markets and economies around the world are being effected and most pundits and economist in the US. seem to agree; that this is a 'Global Economic Crises,' requiring continued communication and globalized initiatives, to stave off a 'deep depression.' Global Summits' are being planned to tackle the worldwide economic crisis, many believe started in the US.

While many Republicans continue to follow the McCain philosophy; that the problems in the housing markets were initiated by Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, this is an unfounded assumption based on 'recklessly trying to point political blame.' The, then, quasi government mortgage & housing loan institutions were actually fairly well sheltered, due to down payment requirements and the standards of acceptability to insure a Government Backing on the mortgage. Until the Federal Government started pushing more and more loans towards Fannie and Freddie, and regulatory issues were relaxed. However, these entities' still, did not 'originate sub-prime mortgages'; this was a fabrication of the NY. Stock Exchange, Centralized Banks and the mortgage and bonds insurance players. The quasi government institutions were safe, until the Feds started pushing more 'bad loans, in debt packaged' onto them. While the Big Players were only seeing dollar signs, with each new inflated mortgage, and rushed to push as many as possible in the shortest period of time, for Wall Street to repackaging and resale.'

In fact, it was recently discovered that a GOP consulting firm (DCI) was paid off by Freddie and Fannie to fight regulatory changes. See this link that exposes the GOP link to failed legislation attempts: Freddie Mac's Secret Plan To Kill Reform. Also coming of light is that McCain's campaign aids were connected with this secret plan.
When does this 'economic malpractice' by the US. Government stop?

It is no wonder so many in America are depressed with the direction the Bush Administration and the Republican Party has led us. Besides WAR Policy, being economically insolvent is a difficult road for either candidate (or party) to lead the nation out of, when elected into the White House in November, 2008.

The Current Crises of America require a real change in 'political direction' in the leadership of the country. Not just another change of the 'party's in charge' and Status Que political agenda America has had over the last 200 plus years.

Libertarian Ideals are necessary, to bring forth real change in Texas and the Nation.

Did you know; Sam Houston served in the US. Congress (elected in 1823) for Tennessee, then became the Governor of Tennessee in 1827 only to resign in 1829, supposedly, after his wife left him? [at which time he left for The Arkansas Territory, now Oklahoma, to live with the Cherokee tribes]

Did you know; that the only reason Sam Houston left Oklahoma in 1836, to come to Texas, was to check on some Cherokee tribes? [only to walk into an impending war with Mexico, when Texas Enlisted him as the General of the Army, and giving him a mission to raise an army.]

Did you know of all six (6) of the Republican Governors, only four (4) have been Governors since the Post Reconstruction Era (1865 and later)?

Do you know what Political Party, Elisha M. Pease was from? {hint the designations is (U)}

Did you know that Elisha M, Pease was the 1st Governor from the Republican Party, on his 2nd term? [Serving from 1867-1869, during the Reconstruction Era as a Republican, and resigned when Texas was readmitted to the Union of the Several States, as a State.]

A Call to Patriotic Duty

A Call to Patriotic Duty
"In the Cause of Liberty"

There Comes A Time; In The Struggles Of A Nation Or Of A State, When The People Must Call Upon Each Brother And Sister; In The Righteous Fight For Freedom, Liberty, Fairness In Practice & Equality of Law. To Act Upon A Patriotic Call, To Preserve The Rights of All People for The Greater Good of the Whole. When The People, Acting in Good Faith & Under The Restrictions Provided In The Constitution(s) They Are Sworn To Live By; & Furthermore, Are Specified in "The Simple Inherent Rights Of The People" of The State & of the Several States in the Union; Are Bound Together, To Be Heard As One Voice - Demanding It Be Delivered Unto Them, As is So Constituted By Them, For Them & To Them, in a Self-governing Republic.

Whereas; In This Republic, No Authority is Greater then the Authority of the People, & that Any duly delegated Provisions of Authority or Powers by the People onto the Government; Are Subject to Revocation, of same, By The People.

Did Not, Our Founding Fathers, of which there is a great list; Forsake Self-indulgence & Individual Wealth; Even To Pledge Their Lives & Limb, Individual Liberties, and All manner of Personal Profit - in Donation to The Cause & Principles That Make Us Freemen? Many Such Great Patriots have been enshrined in our ‘Halls of Fame and Honor‘, for selfless sacrifice and dedication in the ‘Cause of Liberty’, and in our monuments of battles for the shedding of blood. What legacy, dare it be asked, will this generation leave for the inheritance of following generations? Did we stand tall against tyranny and the abominations placed upon our Constitutional Republic? Did we answer the Call and heed the Warnings so well witnessed? Were we Patriots At Heart And in Deed, or in Name Alone?

I May Recall, For You, The Names Of But A Few, "True First Patriots" of the State and the Union of the Several States, being; Stephen F. Austin, Samuel Houston, Thomas Jefferson, John Hancock, George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, Arthur St. Clair, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Paine, Patrick Henry. To name but a few. I Could Go On ,with the naming of such Great Men - True Patriots All of Them. But, you too - Knowing Our Histories, & more names, The Idea & Meaning is clear to you. Some Few Men of Great Moral Character, Steadfast Strength of Will and With Sound Leadership; At Great Risk of Being Branded as ‘Treasonous Traitors’ Under An Unfit Government, Instead Became ‘Patriots of Cause’ - Did Set Out Upon A Treacherous Endeavor; That, To Self Determine A Nation’s Freedom, Securing the Blessings of Liberty, Establish Justice, Insure Domestic Tranquility, Provide for the Common Defense, Promote the General Welfare, and our Posterity, By Establishing A Government For The People - By The People - Of The People.

It Is With Our Humblest Gratitude & Great Respect; We Owe Such Men of Liberty a Great Debt, for the Blessings of Liberty & The Creation of A Constitutional Republic. With Institutions of Democracy & Freedom, coupled with Certain Inalienable Individual Rights & Being Self Governed By The People. So, That The People Do Determine the Path of Our Nation and states & Effect the Decisions of Government, Not the Reverse Thereof. To Avoid the Picking Up Of the ‘Quills of Petition’ Against All Harms To The Constitution & The Peoples’ Liberty, Is to Ignore Our Patriotic Duty, Even When at Risk is Our Own Individual Liberty - and Should be Cause that Our Inheritance Be Forfeit. That Inheritance being, the Freedom & Liberties Which Good Patriots have Fought For & Secured. We have such Rights & Liberties of Speech & Writing, of Peaceable Gatherings to Coordinate, Plan & Demonstrate or Petition As We May feel Necessary, Thus Ensuring we Be Heard, yet Not Resorting to Sword or Arms as those before us found it necessary to do. Yet, not to Forsaking the Right to Keep& Bear Arms.

"A wise and frugal government, which shall leave men free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, - and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned - this is the sum of good government." Thomas Jefferson

"From Time to Time it is necessary, For The People to Take Such Actions, as may be appropriate and correct, against the government. So That They may Alter The Path of a State, or the Union thereof, & Redirect It. To Fit The Will of The People, & Not The Necessity or Ill Conceived Convenience of a Government, or The Enrichment of Some Few and the suffering of many. When That Government is Conceived & Provided to Serve This People, for the Greater Good Of all of The State, or a Union Thereof, there is no better Institution. We Say That Now The Time Has Come Upon Us, To Reach Out & Reclaim That Which Is Our Sovereign Right to Have; To Retake the Steering of Our State & Our Union of the Several States‘ Destiny. To Discover Anew, the Dream from Which The Union Of The Several States and Individual States, was first Envisioned in the Concepts of Our Forefathers. To hold dear to us, the light of the torch, that the Dream Lives On, and so too, shall the Republic Live On."

April 9, 1832, Stephen F. Austin wrote, "Some men in the world hold the doctrine that it is degrading and corrupt to use policy in anything.... There is no degradation in prudence and a well tempered and well timed moderation.," when speaking of men who would rush to conflict before negotiations or diplomacy had failed, and or consider him too conciliatory.

We Say, That of Late; The People have Witnessed, Ill Conceived Government Policies & Corrupted Intentions, of Some Many Officers of Government, for purposes of Self Fulfillment & Influence, & Not In Good Faith Service To The Constitution They Swear or Affirm To Uphold. Wherein Such Leadership, as may be provided us, has failed to Protect the Constitution from abominations, and therefore, also Fails the People it is sworn to Serve and to Protect.

Whereas; The Worst Vagary of Leadership is; That in the Action in Unwarranted Wars, Which fails to Be of Continued Service to The Union of the Several States or of a Single State, & That The People have Spoke Against it, in Joint Opposition. Yet Even Now, Falls Upon a ‘Kings’ Deaf Ears, & his minions who are of similar minds. That This State, Also Having Heard the Voices In Opposition, Fails to Petition The President of the Several States; Through Our Governor and Legislature, In a Joint Resolution for Redress of Such Immoral Conduct. We the People, Find The Governance of the State of Texas, Lacking In It’s Responsibility to The Electorate, who have placed such Trust and Faith in Their Honorable Service, & are Left Wanting.

In that the Congress; of the Union of the Several States, does continue to dally and make Politics on Mattes of War, While Also Not Fettering ‘His’ Hand in Serious Nature of State Matters. Whereas; That a Secretive Collation Exist Between the Union of the Several States and of Some Fewer States, Select Business Enterprises & Even Acting Covertly With Foreign Governments - In Unison, but not as The Whole Union of States, & in Secret; for the Creation of a Trans-Union-Corridor that shall Become An International Super-Highway Supporting the North American Free Trade Agreement, & Without a Full Understanding or Consent of the People as a Whole. Yet, Not Funded By The Union’s Tax Revenues, but by the Individual States Concerned, & without full support of People of the State of Texas. Whereas In Past Histories, Federal & National Roadways Are the Responsibility of The Union of the Several States jointly; to Manufacture, Maintain & Fund as a Duty of Commerce; Transportation and Postal Roadways. This Act, Being a Subversion against the People of the State of Texas, has Caused Great Irritation Between The People of the State, The Governor, It‘s Government Bodies and the Several Offices acting in Secret against the People - Even Causing Divisions Between the People against each other.
In resolution; We, the people of Texas, therefore, Demand a Redress of such State Violations against the Peoples Right of Property and the Governors Accountability to the Electorate.

"I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them." Thomas Jefferson

Whereas; When The Union of the Several States, and the State of Texas, Does Find Itself In Such Fiscal Peril & Indebtedness, That It Can Ill Support The Basic Functions That Are Constitutionally Inherent in it, The People’s Expectations Are of Frugal Leadership with Necessary Budget Restraints & A Return to Smaller Government - Not For Government Growth and Excessively Unsound Fiscal Management, Nor The Delegation to States, quasi-government enterprises, or local Officials for Responsibilities of Same, without revenue to Finance such matters of the State. Wherein; Such Actions, by the Union of the Several States, does then Place The Fiscal Management & Budget Policy of any State at Great Risk. Therefore, the Whole of The Union of the Several States & any State Individually, become Depreciated in Value.

Whereas; We find that, War Policy, Domestic Fiscal Affairs and International Financial Conditions are Ripening The Probability of a Recession as Stresses Increase, and as Financial Institutions Fail, or become dysfunctional.

Whereas; Continued Borrowing against future revenue expectations to fund protracted conflicts abroad, and Credit Debits, Can Break The Union, & That Such Devaluation is likely to cause Less Tranquil Domestic Circumstances, Degrade the General Welfare & Our Prosperity, through neglect of Unaffordable Domestic Policy & Affairs in General - which may lead to a Loss of Established Justice and riotous acts. Therefore, Placing at great risk the Blessings of Liberty and Freedom.
We Resolve that; When the Union of the Several States and Individual States, becoming Less Secure in any Obligations being fulfilled, being so Divided, Heavily Leveraged & Void of Sound Decisive Leadership, is not long to Survive. We furthermore, Find The State Body of Governance & Governor, are again, Lax in their Responsibility to the State of Texas & the Union as a Whole; in not Redressing Such Matters Effectively and Strongly.

"Ask Not, What Your Government Can Do For You, But What You Can Do for Your Government". John F. Kennedy

Whereas; When The Elected Representatives of the People No Longer Debate In Good Faith, On Any Issue Before Either House or Senate, or State Legislature, Thereby finding No Consensus of Agreement: The Representatives Are Of No Further Service To The People. When the Nature of Politics so Stifles any Productive Business in the Affairs of Governing to Completion or Decisive Action, The Elected Representatives are of Corrupted Intentions. At which time it is, Within The Peoples Rights & Obligation, to ask for their Recall or Impeachment from Office. However, If The Union of the Several States, & the State of Texas, is to be Preserved & Prosper; Elected Representatives Must Resort to Good Faith Diplomacy that Ensures the Welfare for the Greater Good of The Union of the Several States, versus the Greater Wealth & Benefit of a State, alone. While adhering to the wishes of the People. Not One Founding Father Had In Mind; That a Peoples’ Representative’s Task, or Obligation of Duty, was to Secure, For His Individual State, "the greatest portion of The Single available pie", therefore, pilfering the reserves of the Nation & States. Rather it Is Intended: "That The Greater Good Would Be Sought, for All In The Union As A Whole, that Each Man Being Equal Is due his Equal Share, And each State Likewise". Our Founders Contrived, That By Sacrificing for the survival of the less fortunate, Boston was able to survive the Siege and Occupation, and All Became Stronger and more Dedicated to the Survival of the Union & the Cause of Liberty; having experienced similar circumstances. If Gluttony and Greed took hold in the several communities of the Union, creating with it divisions among the people and their representatives, the Unification of the Several States Would Not Have Been Possible. Nor would the Survival of the Individual States. Self Serving, Gluttonous Individual Representatives, who’s Intention is to Secure The Greater Portions of Revenue Available, for Personal Gain, Individual Recognition, Fame & Not in Good Faith or Service to The Constitution, nor Doing Good Service to their Respective States & it‘s People. Then we see These Elected Representatives Serve their Own Ambitions & Debate to Win a Greater Advantage, Rather Than the Greater Goal of Unity through Diplomacy and Consensus. No Duty nor Obligation is Greater, then The Selfless Service To the Constitution(s) and the Fair, Good Faith Dealings with Peers, for the Preservation of The Union of the Several States or any individual State.

Resolving that: The Affirmation to uphold The Constitution for the Common Goal of Servicing the Greater Good for the People, is a most sacred Trust. Look Not, With Pride and Enthusiasm At Elected Representatives Who Continually ‘Earmark Bills of Congress’, To Bring Home Excessive Pork Spending, but view them with Disdain & Embarrassment that He is Filled with Self Importance and Gluttony & At great Cost of The General Revenues; while Further Bankrupting The Union of the Several States and any individual State, and likewise, Not Tending To the Constitutional Intent of Service & Duty.

Whereas; We the people, therefore, find it self-evident that the General Affairs of the Nation are in Decay, and that the Union and Republic are at Great Risk. Likewise, the People of Texas, Also, Witness Such Similar Conditions in the States Governance; with lax attitudes towards Responsibility & Accountability to the People. Placing the Republic and The State of Texas, both, in Peril of Loss of Civil Liberty, Equality in Justice, Domestic Tranquility, Provisions of the Common Defense, Promotion of the General Welfare, and our Domestic Posterity.

We therefore, further resolve, in unison: That a Call for a return to frugal management of the fiscal budgets of Governments, a significant reduction in the size of Governments, fair and appropriate taxes where required, a reduction in unnecessary and redundant regulatory restriction on markets, abolishment of all monopolies (as they inhibit fair trade and sound market pricing), adherence of States Right versus Federal Rights or Abuses thereof, and the return of all illegally appropriated powers from the states by the Union of the States.
Furthermore; we demand that The Union and State fully restore all Individual Rights and Civil Liberties of the People, that have been infringed upon with the passing of legislation's such as the "Patriot Act", and are not supported by Constitutional Authority. Including, but not limited to, restoration of privacy in communications & restoration of the ’non-federalization of police’ against the people, by restoring police actions to the states and restoration of restraint of the Unions Armies against the citizens.

In final resolution; We would seek to hold Officers of the Governments accountable and responsible for sound governance, effective leadership, fiscal management and high ethical standards in carrying out of their duties under the Constitution(s), and removing those who are ineffective or unethical.
